Franschhoek enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere and coincides with Christmas.

Summer days are warm to hot and rain-free. Temperatures vary from minimum 15°C (60F) up to an average maximum of 29°C (85F); though, on some days, temperatures can reach as high as 38°C (100F). Franschhoek has a mild winter, with the rainy season running from May till August, with July and August being the wettest months.

As the name suggests the town of Franschhoek (French Corner) offers a wealth of French heritage. Distinguished by its fine colonial architecture, the town also incorporates French flair in cuisine and wine-making.
